Persephone in the Late Anthropocene: Movement One

Hinge/Works presents a modern spoken word opera, written by Megan Grumbling and composed by Denis Nye, about Persephone's erratic journeys from underworld to earth in the age of climate change.

Synopsis of Movement One: As Persephone develops a decadent relationship with humans, the world around her slowly deteriorates, and Demeter loses her connection with her daughter and the natural world.

The first part of this opera will be presented in a workshop format on May 15th and 16th. Audience feedback is strongly encouraged!

The full opera will be presented in October 2015.

Megan and composer Denis Nye present a performance of poetry and music from Megan's Persephone in the Late Anthropocene, at the Belfast Poetry Festival. This oratorio and composition for violin and cello imagines the Greek goddess of springtime in the era of climate change. Featuring actors Karen Ball, Paul Haley, and Michael Howard.

King Tide Party

Citizen observers are invited to an observance of the astronomical high tide and the sea level rise occurring in Portland, Maine. Featuring audio and video art, citizen observation, a tower, and interactive street theater devised by Megan and performed by actors Karen Ball, Deirdre Fulton, Corey Gagne, and Tess Van Horn.
